Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how our helicopter evacuations work on Mount Kilimanjaro:
- Emergency Call: When a climber experiences an emergency, the call for evacuation is made by the tour guide or trekking company and in rare cases, the hikers themselves. Immediate communication is established with our operations team
- Dispatch of the Helicopter: Once the emergency is confirmed and a location is given, our helicopter is dispatched from our base at Tango Zulu heliport or Moshi Airport. Thanks to the efficiency of TANAPA, there are numerous helipads across all camps on the mountain. These provide fast, safe and efficient entry and takeoff.
- On-Site Medical Assistance: Upon arrival, our medical team assesses the patient’s condition. If necessary, oxygen is administered and the climber is carefully secured on the stretcher or seat.

- Safe Transport to Medical Facilities: The helicopter then transports the climber to a nearby medical facility for further treatment, typically to KCMC hospital in Moshi or Arusha, where more advanced care can be provided.
Throughout the entire process, our team’s top priority is the health and safety of the climber. From the moment the call is made to the final handover to medical professionals, we ensure that the evacuation is conducted with precision and care.
